tomssupra
Alright Guys, Ive got a 93 Auto N/A and ive got a few Questions... 1) When driving normally and you put your foot down and it all kicks in and pushes you back into your seat, is there a name for that? It feels like some kind of boost or something... 2) When driving normally sometimes I put my foot down and it goes into a deep growl, and does not boost up as mentioned above, you have to let go and try again, sometimes 2 or 3 times before it kicks in - what does this mean? 3) Ive got a whirrling sound whenever I accelerate, it gets louder as I go further up the rev meter - what does this mean? Thanks guys, Tom

straightsix
2) When you're really crawling, the car is in 3rd for instance, the box will kick down to 1st to give you the oomph needed for second, third etc. If you're already going that bit faster, it won't need to kick down two gears, so may only drop down one or even none at all. 3) That would be the giggle pin and chortle valve that Toyota fitted to the NA and not the TT (anything to make em thing we NA drivers have got something they haven't!!!) BROARDSIDE
also to add to the above the n/a auto has 2 stages of kickdown. if you slowly put your foot flat to the floor it will kick down as normal. . . when you get to the end push your pedal a bit harder it will feel like you have over pushed it but its actualy sports mode . . . if you have a look under the accelerator pedal you will find a big black plunger style switch, push it by hand without your engine running its actualy quite hard to do . . . this is the same as hitting sports mode on a mk3 supra this will mean that you can go much further up the rev range before the gears change up thats my findings and i think the whine if it is after 5000 rpm it will probably be just the suction on your induction system . . . i would guess you have got a modified air filter
