Marty
Ok, its just started happening in last day or so. i go to start my car, and....click.. click. A few goes and it starts. Its not the battery because its brand spanking new and fully charged. could it be the solenoid in the starter motor?
Bobbystone
ive had the same problem abourt a month or two ago. my problem was sim to urs as it was infrequently clickin over and not startin then it got slowly worse and worse until it would take upto 10 mins to start it( a swift hit with the hammer) took it to my local garage where they removed the motor took it down the road to a guy who fully refurbs them then they put it back all for just under £100. Now work perfectly. hope that helps ya:)

Maxx
Do a refurb on the starter, if you do a search you'll find quite a bit on this. Refurbed mine about 12 months ago. It's the contacts in the starter motor solenoid, over time these wear down and the solenoid failures to engage the starter. The hardest part is getting the starter out of the car and back in again (this maybe due to having a UK TT Auto) there is very little room to work. I'd have Chris Wilson if you don't want the hassle and can get over to him. If you decide to do it yourself you'll need BOTH the following parts from Toyota: Starter Kit #28226-74070 and Starter Kit #28226-22050 About £20 if I remember correctly. Be warned if it's a UK auto (not sure about manual) the starter bolts are a complete nightmare to get to. Goodluck
Marty
Bloody jeeezus! is there some sort of magic trick i need to use to undo the top bolt that holds the starter motor in??! not enough room to swing a flea's pube! i'll keep cracking on with it. Thanks for the info Maxx, much appreciated, u were bang on about probs with gettin it off i'll get them parts ordered asap
Maxx
Tell me about it, took me god knows how long to get it out, getting it back in is even worse took me and a mate about an hour. Hfeed the spanner in from the top of the engine bay onto the bolt and I turned it about a quarter turn from underneath! It fixed the problem though
normore1
A 1/2" drive ratchet with about 3-4 feet of extensions does the trick on the bolts. That plus lots of %/@!#*! Toyota doesn't make anything easy. Usually 4 bolts or fasteners where 2 would do and always up or behind something that impedes easily gettin a wrench on them. AMHIK derek
