tDR
Anyone had / have an HKS twin plate? Would be interested to hear what yours is like driveability and noise wise etc? I have one on my 1JZ mk3, it's not so bad to live with as I've heard made out about twin plates - the pedal travel is literally a quarter that of a normal setup, the bite is quite agressive but you can be smooth once you get the hang of it and I do get a rattly noise after a while of driving. I wonder if this noise is because it has two friction plates or I have a lightweight aftermarket flywheel I didn't know about? Cheers, Brian. Fox
As Terry says, when it gets hot it rattles a lot more. After a few hours drive through France when it was 35C mine was shockingly loud when I stopped for fuel. The rattle on idle I don't find as annoying as the graunching you get at low revs (e.g. when pulling from Although it does rev more freely, it's not a huge difference, because the pressure plate is pretty heavy anyway, so just making the flyweheel lighter doesn't make as big a difference to the overall weight as you might think. tbourner
Well my life is mostly driving to work and back about 10 miles each way, so probably not gonna bother me that much.
SimonB
Nothing like busting someone bubble!!! LOL! Sorry mate! I drive mine to and from work every day, and most of the time to be fair it's not that noisy. And when it is I don't really mind too much - I do get fed up of people asking what's broken. I'll be changing back to a standard fly when I next need to change the clutch I think though. As long as you know it's going to be noisy and don't mind that it's fine. Fox
Sorry for bring this post back from the dead but it might help other members decide. -------- Just home from the holls. Me and the wife to be went on a trip around Ireland and yes we took the supra. We have covered around 1500 miles and I have to say never once did we get a bad or ill reception anywhere. Thumbs up everywhere with the odd little boy racer egging us on to "BURN THE BACK WHEELS" all in all a very enjoyable experance. Back to the good stuff, here the low down. The car at idle has a small faint rattel. This rattle dies away with just a little more rev's. Pick up from low revs in high gears (5 - 6) the car realy sounds lumpy, until it gets going then everything is back to normal. No big issue, either down shift or nurse it out. BUT it does sound BAD!! I will have a play about with my camcorder and see if i can record the noice at idle and pick up..... anyways hope this helps, I still think it's money well spent!!! TRD3000GT
If you must use the RPS get the street clutch as it uses a stock disc, so the engagement is good.. There are other altenatives with less required pedal pressure, but TBH for 90% of you I would say go back to a stock clutch, you'd be surprised what they can hold. After that, The Kevlar discs are cool. I agree, Been there done that.. RPS Street kit is good for a BPU or stock supra... Nice unit.. I had one but burnt through it before I got the single fitted.. Im now using a 6 puck
tbourner
I'll go for the RPS sport with street disc I think. Just need to find out if the kit includes throw out bearing and snap rings!!
