IK22s or IK24s

I am curious why everyone is saying IK24. I have been running IK22's for about three years at BPU (1.2-1.3 BAR) with no pre-ignition or detonation. After 10K miles on my IK22's the plugs are still in excellent shape with normal brown to grey electrode colour indicating proper heat range. The IK24 is a pretty cold plug at two steps below stock. In theory a colder plug will foul easier and will take longer for the engine to warm up while also running rough. I would be happy to accept that the IK24 is a better choice at BPU level if someone would justify with some reasons or photos showing IK22's that have insulator damage or other evidence of it being too hot a plug.

It's a safety margin thing...for me the IK24's never skipped a beat at idle (cold or warm) and so it cost me nothing to run the colder plugs...also with so many ropey Intercoolers out there I'd rather have the colder plug.

IK24's are best for you too V.

Partco in Norwich or PANKS will get them in for you at a good price.

I would have thought the cold start and idling on IK27's would have been poor and they would get fouled easily. If they work for those that have them then great, but I see no need to run that cold a plug unless you're running over 1.5bar.

The NGK equivelents are;

BKRE7IX's are the Iridium I think...I've got some in at the moment and they run my single.

BCPR7ES' gapped to about 0.7-9 on your setup are the cheaper copper options.

Cheers Alex,

Any pros & cons between makes?

Are the BKRE7IX's Iridium ones suited for my setup? or are there other ones better suited that are Iridium?

I dont fancy copper!

Thanks

SV

V, PANKS supplied mine and yes they will suit you (eqiv. of an IK24)

James, IK24's are available from your local PARTCO - but may have to be ordered in specially.

I'm writing an FAQ so I can just direct you all in future ;)
