Rich
Ive always wondered what the chirping noise is on BL and SP single kits when you change gear after spooling the turbo in? on tial wastegates there is barely any noise at all. is this just the HKS wastegate which makes this noise or is the noise something else? thanks Rich

Alex
Hmmm, the wastegate goes wwwwhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh to a highish pitched rushing air noise....then when you let off the throttle you get a normal vent to atmos bov (HKS SQV being the most popular). Now obviously you hear the wastegate when using high loads but it will start to open from as little as 3,000rpm (depending on the size of turbo and spring rate in the gate) but it's not down to the gear change...but yes you'd hear it reopen each time you shift (in a manual... - the auto shouldn't really drop boost) The wastegate noise can go high pitched but I'm just not sure if that's what you mean. And I wouldn't call it a chirp...u sure you're not listening to the tyres lol?
Kopite
IIRC the best example of the "chirp" i can think of is when Clarkson was in a Noble (i think), was deffo a chip and not the usual wastegate/BOV sound.
Matt T
The word chirp to me means the sound WRC cars make all the time, ive always thought this was due to the wastegate
