xbox 360 tech help needed

My lads xbox 360 got the red rings, Was given an xbox 360 by a mate with the same problems.

Thought i would use this as a practice one to see if i could take case apart and do the prod fix.

this worked apart from the dvd drive {busted mechanical tray} so put it to one side,

 

Tryed the same with my lads xbox, did not work. tryed the prod fix again, no luck.

 

so i was going to use the mates xbox but need to replace the drive. i know i cant swap drive unless i change the drive key.

im not that clever, so can i buy another benq drive and take the circuit board out of the broken one which is fine and swap into another benq drive. i guessing the key is in the circuit board of drive?

 

any thoughts.need to fix just trying not to buy another one, as i want new tires.lol.
