Further Power Steering Squealing

Rob

Recommended Posts

Further to my last thread, where it was generally agreed to be the belt in need of replacing, I still haven't got round to doing anything, but now when I start the engine it takes about 10 seconds for the power steering to work then the squeaking starts.

Is this still the belt? i.e. do you think the belt isn't being driven properly until it picks up after 10 seconds?

or something worse as the lights come on if I try to turn the wheel during that initial moment.

Still sounds like the belt.

By lights coming on, i guess you mean the alternator light etc, which would be a result of the belt slipping and not turning the alternator enough.

If your belt is really slipping that much i would be worried about driving that car, as the same belt turns the water pump.....:o
