Alex
Hi Guys.... Well the oil is due yet another change...lost count this year!!! I've been using Valvoline 5w50 for errr my entire ownership period, but I can't help but think that with 105,000miles on the clock I should be putting something a bit thicker to make sure it doesn't seep past the seals/rings. Has anyone tried Castrol RS 10w60? Should be a bit thicker and even tougher. Comments please on this oil or other 10wXX rated oils. Thanks
Gaz Walker
I was gonna try that one next. I've never heard a bad word said against it, would go as far as saying its one of the best if not the best oil available... Gaz.
Alex
That's what I thought....Castrol is a fairly reputable company after all!! Just need to find a local supply...
Gaz Walker
If you can't find it Alex, a contact in the 200+ Club gets it for £24 delivered for 5 litres... Gaz.
Guest Terry S
FWIW guys our cars have VERY high oil pressure. The failure of the front main seal is common especially when running big power. You may compound the situation by putting thicker oil in. I understand the theory Alex, just worth a thought.
Alex
Terry I see your point but the engine was rated by Toyota for 10w30....so shouldn't it be able to take that...other than the oil seals being tired? I don't know about the Supra but I read today on the GTR board that the ideal for the skyline is 7.5w, but you can't get that - to the best of my knowledge. And so Trust/GReddy recommend Castrol RS 10w60... Or does any one know of 7.5w oil!! ??

Well I can't find it in stock or for that price so please let me know who I can ask...many thanks Still is it worth £3 more per 4L's than the Valvoline....hmmm decisions decisions... GavinL - you have had the unfortunate problem of the front seal going more than once, which oil did you run?? EDIT - Just found AGIP do a 10w60 as well, and a shop nearby stocks it. Syed Shah
Did anyone buy the seals from SP that they were selling a while ago? Supposed to cure this problem.
