Tyre sizes

I am looking at getting a set of 18's soon for my MY95 N/A but am unsure of the best tyre size to go for.

I am going to have quite a big ice install so was thinking that if I went for 225/40/18's front and rear this would leave enough room for any lowering in height at the rear from the weight of the install.

Would this tyre size effect the speedo as I have seen cars with 35 profile tyres on the rear.

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks

Martin. :(

I have 225/35/19 on the fronts and 235/35/19 on the rears, they clear easily, though having read about some ppl's tyre sizes on here i.e. 285/275 at the rear 255/245 at the front; i wish i'd of got some a little wider!

It shouldn't really affect the speedo try a definite 1 mile or 10 mile, and check this again when you get your new wheels, or use a friends car to try and get a comparison. :D

235 on the rear of a TT?

Don't have an accident mate. Your insurance company won't pay you out if they notice you are running narrower than stock sized tyres.

I'm going to be putting 285/35 18 on the rear of mine, they're about 20mm larger overall diameter than stock, which should actually bring the speedo into more accuracy at higher speeds!!! :p

I need to get the whole thing re-cal'ed anyway.

From what I can tell from the tyre calculation websites I would be better off fitting 225/275/40/18 as it seems that this would cause the least difference in the speedo.
Do you mean 225/40/18 on the front and 275/40/18 on the rear?

225 section tyres are too narrow for 275 rears really. I would probably go for 245/40/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rears

Yeah I did mean that, I have only got a non turbo supra so I didn't think I would need wider tyres. Do you think that 225's front and rear would look wrong or could I pull it off. It would also be the cheaper option. :(
