GeordieSteve
Anyone ever bought property over there? I've been looking on the net and there's some SERIOUS bargains. Maybe too good some of them which is why I'm asking... does anyone know the normal going rate for a place out there? I'm looking to maybe buy a small villa out there for tourists... and ME now and again This flat is far too cheap surely http://www.homesandproperty.co.uk/region.aspx?regionid=126&opt=prop&salerent=0&type2=1&allareas=1 . £5.50 a year insurance? JohnA
Have you ever been to Pattaya Steve? Laydeeboyz galore, lol... Ever been to that beach, or that address even? exotic beaches is not why people go there (they're crap) and the small flat could be hidden behind other tall buildings, meaning that there is no way someone can judge the price without more info about the property and the current market prices in that area
GeordieSteve
Wasn't planning on buying it. Just observing prices, which is what I was asking for advice on
michael
£17k for a nice flat surrounded by tall buildings still sounds damn cheap to me, that's part furnished too! What can you get over here for that money?
JohnA
Ah. I'd also beware of the ownership laws regarding non-nationals buying properties. Sometimes you pay money and get titles worth feckall, despite all those UK-TV programs claiming 'bargains abroad'. A lot of homework is needed if you want to avoid loopholes. I know of Brits living in Thailand (Pattaya even) and it isn't as straightforward as a holiday home in Wales.
GeordieSteve
This is my home work. I'm asking if anyone has done it before that can provide advice. Friend of a friend lives over there and he thinks it's great but then again he's lived in many many many other countrys so he knows what it's all about
JohnA
Pattaya is an acquired taste Steve. I found it to be more like a big brothel, and less like a screenshot from "The Beach", which was shot at a location a few hundred miles to the south.
Nick
You need to be very, very careful. As a foreigner you cannot own the land, only the property it's built on. There's loads of info on the web, this is a good start: http://www.holt-realty.com/real_estate_thailand_canubuy.shtml Just remember it's a completely different culture and you need to understand how they think and work to avoid any nasty surprises.... If you decide to buy do LOTS of research first...

JohnA
3 posts and 3 times you mentioned Pattaya... hmmm You a regular? Maybe that's where the property we're talking about is based. Alternatively, maybe I work as a Laydeeboy in my spare time. (It wasn't me asking about buying a property in Pattaya, or am I wrong? )
