Hi everyone.

I have just (with the help of Dude), worked out why I had a potentually very dangerous situation about 16 months ago, I have also revived the old thread when this happened to me, (I don't know how to quote threads).

My car is at AFR at the moment having a few problems sorted out, one being no compression in number 6, :( Dude stripped the engine only to find a piece of hard plastic jambing open one of the valves. When he discribed it to me it clicked as to where it may have come from. A few months ago I changed all my plastic/rubber OEM IC pipe work to hard pipes, whilest removing the old I noticed that at one of the joints, part of the pipe had obviously broken off and the old pipes did appear a bit brittle.

Talking this through with John today it seems very likely that this piece of plastic was the cause of my unwanted WOT situation in which the other thread talks about.

My fear is that if somone else were to have this problem, at this time of year especially, it has the potential to be life threatening.

It may be a good move for those who still have the older plastic OEM pipework to check them.

I don't want to sound like a scare monger but I had to say something.

Thanks for reading.

Bob.

Marc had a very similar thing happen, he also thought it might be down to the old IC piping. It got trapped under one of his valves in the engine indicating a dead engine. After checking with a scope it was seen and the head was taken off to get rid of the offending piece of rubber/plastic. One thought to be goosed engine fixed.

Is that the reason for no compression in no.6? I don't really have the knowledge to know if an open injector could count for a lack of compression.

It was the initial cause of compression fail, which AFR think caused more problems.

Does that mean it won't require a rebuild or are the other issues pointing to a re-build? Not sure whether to be happy or sad for you mate, need more info ;)
