SILKYSMOOTH
I really fancy buying a motorbike and I need some advice guys... I want to spend around 3-4k for the 1st one, possibly more! and I would like something sporty like either a Suzuki GSXR 600/750 or a Yahama R6 maybe but I'm open to anything else... What are my options and what should I really be looking at when going to buy one? My mate has been going on at me for years to get one and it's been a life long dream of mine too (as I used to ride bikes when I was young) and I think it's about time I got one now. appreciate all your advice... SimonT
Cant go wrong with GSXR's I've had a few of them and my brother and my friends also have them as well!! Dont get a 600 though you have to work them too hard to make them do anything, i would choose a 750!! Lovely looking bikes as well in my opinion!! Lovely looking bikes as well in my opinion!! thats what I was thinking actually, I went to see a couple of 750's today, thinking that the 600 will not be enuf, I'm 6ft 4.5" and quite heavy and the Yamaha's are very lightweight too, I'm thinking the Suzuki will be more befitting for my weight ratio. Will I be able to get one on a K4-K5 for that much??

SILKYSMOOTH
Speed Tripple is a good choise. Good choice indeed...I like the riding position and the handle bars are set wider apart and it still has the sport look

SILKYSMOOTH
First bike ? Maybe something a bit more conservative for a year dude ? Definately considered that...thanks mate...:thumbs:but I catch on pretty quick, I advised the same thing to my mate when he got his 1st GSXR 600 and he wrote it off in an accident and had a lucky escape. I'm quite sensible though so I will treat it with great respect and discipline for the 1st year.....just don't want to waste money on buying an old bike, I will get plenty of practice 1st..... Will I be able to get one on a K4-K5 for that much?? I would say you could get a 2nd hand K4 for the top end of that money as the K5's are still going for the late 4K's!! I had a K4 750 and im 6' 4 as well and i found it ideal very easy to handle and dont be scared of leaning them into a corner as they just go round them! But being serious it wasnt my first bike as if it was i probably would have crashed it but if you have a lot of experience in riding sports bikes you'll have no problems!! Reason why I didnt get one all this time is coz my brother in law's brother died on one many years ago when he was 21 years old and it wasn't the best idea at the time to get one, now that I'm older and many years have passed. I have to fulfill my desires or I will regret it like selling the Supra....

ilicos
Doesn't matter how sensible you are buddy, I had been riding for years and always got away with a light scrape here and there. I had every type of bike you could imagine and the accident that nearly ended me was one where I was going 25mph and someone cut straight across my path!!! Be sensible and get yourself a tamer bike for a year or two, the power from a 600 or 750 sport/super sport bike is addictive and irrespective of how sensible you are, you will use that power. You need to spend time understanding how a powerful bike corners/stops/reacts in different situations. Not trying to be a know-it-all but too many novice riders have come unstuck when finding themselves in a situation that they weren't prepared for. Thanks for the advice thats why I posted this thread I need to hear this from experienced riders such as yourself I know there are great risks and potential dangers and I want to be prepared for them so I will get as much training as possible... as you said though, it's always some idiot that pull's out in front of you, thats what happened to my friend as well, was not really his fault but he could have avoided it...
