CCTV setup - anyone got one?

Lots of past threads on this but all links/prices seen to be out of date.

I know Michael has some sort of setup but was wondering if anyone else does. I'm moving into my own place in a couple months and want to get CCTV installed.

From a quick scan on ebay I think a wired setup with 3 - 4 cameras is all I need. Not that bothered about the DVR unless it's dirt cheap, will just use PCI card on home PC.

Can anyone recommend a setup? I'd need outdoors cameras with good night vision. What's the best cameras etc? Also, how long would say 250gb last recording at a decent resolution?

Yeah seen that one Gav, I don't know if I wanted the extra expense of the hardrive though. How would I play back the recordings with that setup? Does it need a monitor/TV I take it?

Hmmmm, don't know, but it appears that you need a monitor, but it also makes mention of a USB port for backing up to the PC...

The ebay link one looks pretty good though.

Yeah, pretty much figured I'd need some sort of display as well so that's an additional cost.

As my HTPC is on constant anyway I thought I could utilise the HD and display setup I have for that to keep costs down. Was just wondering of anyone else had a similar setup and had any advice

Aaaah, fair enough, didn't realize you were an HTPC person as well :). In that case, yeah a DVR card and few cameras would do the basic job. Perhaps wrap it up with something like girder and it could react to events.
