'Radical preacher Abu Qatada has been awarded £2,500 in compensation by the European Court of Human Rights.

Judges ruled that his detention without trial in the UK under anti-terrorism powers breached his human rights'

What do you think?

He's not been charged for anything (innocent until proven guilty)and has been locked up for a long time without charge? Compensation justified.

This is a p1ss take and will probably go down as one of the worst compensation 'rewards' of all time as he is a known radical who has spawned hatred against our way of life

Regardless of what I think of the person, the UK breached the ECHR's, so there could only be one result really.

The powers that be in the UK probably balanced the risk of letting him go, with the threat of ending up in court for keeping him locked away, and decided that it was worth it. £2,500 in compensation is probably quite a good result for the extra time to question him and keep him locked up.

The CPS could have put him on trial in the first place.

This country cannot preach justice & democracy for all if it's going to be the 51st state of America and detain people indefinetly without trial.

Anyway isn't this bloke being deported to some tin pot dictatorship who want to kill him rather slowly?
