Scott
Got one of the above harddrives as i was running out of space for all the media i store on my main PC. Got a bit of a shock there when i checked the drive speed of my PC. For some reason the drive is capable of 114,295 according to nero drive speed. My other harddrives are between 65,000 & 70,000. All of my drives are SATA II and 7200 RPM. 2 of the drives have an 8MB cache, 2 have 16MB cache and the spinpoint has 32MB cache. Is it the cache making the difference? I seriously can't believe the difference. So much for getting a raptor. Anyone planning on a system upgrade HDD wise should just get one of these. Hermit
I presume you mean 1TB Simple fact that as drive capacity gets bigger, it's more densely packed, and therefore quicker to read/write. Access time would still be much quicker on a Raptor, and that's a major factor in how the drive feels in day to day use. Up to you if it's worth the money though! I was thinking that was the reason but i don't notice the same difference in speed between 200GB and 500GB. The 1TB drive is litereally twice as fast as every other drive i have. The difference between the rest of the drives is within 10mb/s
Supra786
I require one of these hard drives in the near future, so was wondering how much you paid for this and where you got it from? Thanks.
DamanC
Its the platter design They only have 3 platters as opposed to the normal 4. I read a review about it, long while ago mind. Whilst the cache helps its speed was mainly due to the 3 platter design. 3 x 320GB platers rather than 4 x 250GB, therefore seek times are smaller. That's what I remember anyway. Good drives, you have one of the best.

I'm thinking that i'll get one in the near future to run the OS from. Reckon i'll get another one and partition it accordingly.

Unlike every other OEM drive i have bought this one came with mounting screws, instructions and proper packaging. Can definitely recommend from my experience.
