New car needed any ideas?

Shadow Beast

Recommended Posts

Going to put this in the members section for now and depending on what happens then another thread will go up in the relevant section.

Bit of advice and possibilities please from those in the know. Unfortunately due to a change in circumstances it looks like Mrs Shadow Beast is going to have to get rid of the supra, trying to hang on to if she can, but when needs must and all that, it may have to go, sad it will be but hey life moves on.

So question is this, she is going to be looking for a small prob 2 seater convertible, so what are the options?

we used to have a Mk1 mx-5 Dakar which was great, so may look back along the lines of a slightly newer one, maybe a Mk2 or any other suggestions taken, What are MR-2's like? they do turbo'd ones as i have looked on piston heads, are they easy to maintain? what fuel consumption like?

If any of you have any ideas of others then feel free to point us in the right direction, probably goint to be looking around the £4500 mark maybe a little more or less if the right one is around.

Is there anyone on here selling anything like what we are looking for?

Cheers

Richie

MR2 turbos are typical of Jap engineering, easy to look after and good fun as well. Just look for one that has been maintained well and it will have no problems. Fuel consumption on the GTS is around 25mpg, but as i said they are quite light and good fun, turbo's put out about 235bhp, na's slightly less depending on what revision you go for.

Ideally you would probably want a Rev 3+, better looking and more extra's, and of course newer. Any help?

Here's a good example for you: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1996-TOYOTA-MR2-TURBO-REV4-FRESH-IMPORT-LOOKS-STUNNING_W0QQitemZ260297394402QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260297394402&_trkparms=39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Turbo's past revision 3 are quite rare due to the 10 year rule, and not many seem to be being imported. For £4500 I would expect a low mileage immaculate Rev 3 or 4. I wouldnt accept anything less for that money, also be looking for full leather and service history

Just wanted to bring this up as not many replies, does anyone have any experience with these type of vehicles?Looks quite nice, it's for Jen so suits the girly image I suppose:D

Richie

No experience, other than listening to a mechanic curse one which came in for a head gasket :), but I think I'd prefer an MX5.

I'd stay away from the MGF personally - look at the MK3 MR2s (but read up on the know issues first) and the MX5.

Cheers, i think its going to be a toss up between the MR2 and MX-5 although economy is not to much of an issue as opposed to size, what is the MR2 like for servicing and running costs?

Well, my non-turbo used to cost about £40 to fill up on super and it used to go a long way. Toyota servicing used to cost me £300 for a full service, try and get one that has had it's cambelt done, it's the worst job on an MR2.

I remember I got mine done for £180 at 3S, takes most of the day because it's almost an engine out job.

IMO the MR2 looks slot better than the MX!
