Alex
Potentially completely gei question in light of most peoples desire for more noise... Since fitting the single it has to be said that you can hear me coming a mile away (or more!) and whilst fun most of the time sometimes the boom and drone is too much with my Nur Spec R. So which are the quietest exhausts with at least 3" pipework, straight as possible? Or do you think it would be better to add a bigger expansion box to the middle of my Nur? (I don't have the bung for the Nur and TBH I think they are unslightly so would never want one)
JustGav
I've got an HKS silent... which has inbuilt baffles on my project car.... I have no idea what it sounds like tho.... When I've lifted it off the car I'll let you know Gav
Zed
I believe that the HKS Super Drager is generally seen is one of the quieter exhausts, but also quite free flowing due to the large diameter piping. It doesn't have the straightest piping but I think this helps give good ground clearance.
D3xt3r
Or get one of these Exhaust valves...
JustGav
My old HKS Super Dragger didn't have ground clearance, it used to hang LOWER than my veilside skirts, and needless to say got scrapped fairly regularly..... Gav
Zed
Lower than the side skirts !! that's surprising Gav, I can easily drive over those square type speed bumps ( the ones that look like giant ravioli !!) and my exhaust still comfortably clears them. JustGav
Well... All has been sorted now... I went for a slightly LOUDER G-Reddy Unit.... Gav
Alex
Was the HKS Priest as silent as its name suggests?
Guest Usmann A
I heard this on my uncles Supra, and yes, it is quieter, much quieter than a NUR/Hiper. Its S/S aswell, discontinued now though, but you can still get em. Try the HKS Hipower with the electronic butterfly flap in the backbox?
Aerotop Dave
Woot, ( ) my exhaust gets a mention on here at last! (I think I'm the only person on the whole board with the HKS Priest) Mine's got both cats in at present, but won't have soon. At present it burbles at idle and when trundling past in D (several people at work have commented on the burbling as it goes past) and a guy at Tescos thought it was a V8 due to the noise. But it soon livens up when you put your foot to the floor. My understanding from eyefi (who's car it was and who fitted this exhaust) is that it will get louder at idle and on throttle once the cats are out. b_have
Having exactly the same problem Alex, Thought it was just me getting old, but when on full boost, the Drager and external wastegate with screamer pipe its just mad. My neighbour can here me 3 miles away on our local spur road! Also gotta get it quieter for Japfest track day, hmmmm, still have the stock pipe somewhere..... ballsoutracing
Have the HKS Silent Hi-Power, and as the name suggests, its pretty quiet, can't hear it much in the car.
Alex
Just to drag this up from the depths. I've had my Nur Spec R customised...I've lost lots Lots of Din and lots of vibration and lots of headaches Where the "expansion" box is in the middle of the Nur it's all nice and straight, it's been chopped out and replaced with a 3" bore secondry silencer. Power and Performance (local Powerflow dealers) did the work and it cost about £150 fitted inc vat. My Single is now a kitten in town and importantly when outside friends and family's houses, but still a Lion at WOT thanks to the completely unsilenced external wastegate. I can now go for extended runs without waking up the rest of Norfolk and I've lost no performance as it's still 3" dia from root to tip.
