RedM
If you get a CNN Daily Top 10 email don't click on the links within it. If you can't resist then definitely do not download the 'Flash player' update. It's a nasty trojan thing. http://blog.mxlab.be/2008/08/04/cnn-daily-top-10-leads-users-to-site-hosting-malware/ I know none of you are stupid enough to go clicking links in emails from sites you aren't subscribed to but you may be like me, subscribed to CNN but not the legit Daily Top 10, and hit the 'unsubscribe' link. Some of the non-news type links are safe and go to CNN. If you read far enough in that link you'll find me blaming the missus for my own daftness. Michael, Out of interest, have you noticed your connection speeds dropping recently? For large file downloads (not pr0n or DVD images or anything - just software updates etc) have dropped through the floor over the last couple of weeks. All other web usage seems un affected. I wonder if they have applied some new "shaping" restrictions?

For large file downloads (not pr0n or DVD images or anything - just software updates etc) have dropped through the floor over the last couple of weeks. All other web usage seems un affected. I wonder if they have applied some new "shaping" restrictions? I noticed a drop in speeds a while ago and it's continued to be a bit crap at peak hours for a bit so I had a bit of a dig around. I was on an older package called "PlusNet Broadband Premier Option 1" and paying around £24.99 a month before discounts - it seems traffic shaping is well and truly in place on this as well as the 13GB fair use limit. This also applies to a lot of the current products with defined limits on speed being put in place rather than dynamic shaping to meet demand: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/broadband_your_way/experience/speed.shtml So I swapped to "PlusNet Broadband Your Way Pro" - no speed restrictions, £5.00 a month less, priority given to important traffic and 15GB allowance and so on. it was a bit flakey for the first two days of it being swapped but it's settled down now and things are much better, download speeds are back to normal, maybe slightly higher even. Digsy
Cheers dude. I can't even remember what deal I'm on (but I know it costs £15.99 per month or thereabouts.) I'll have a look at what they are currently offering.
RedM
I'm on BB Plus. We don't really have any issues with speed.
michael
I'm on BB Plus. We don't really have any issues with speed. Even on downloads? I know it's OK for browsing etc but they seem to be quite restrictive on streaming media, p2p etc http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/products/archive/bb_plus.shtml

I don't play games online. The only issue I have is that Ubuntu/Linux likes it's updates. When it's over 20mb I just postpone it until off-peak hours when I can use upto 50gb per month. It works for us.
