ive not heard of that before.. I would think that doing it in 'Public' would be frounded apon, but illegal? wouldnt have thought they could do anything if its done on your drive way...

My only thought would be health and safety regs but it seems very odd if it is true.

H&S in the workplace.

This mechanic, I'm thinkning he wanted you to pay him rather than do it yourself.

yeah I got the feeling he was either trying to scare me or just warn me. Does sound like it would make sense for health and safety though but I guess you guys are right, I doubt anyone would actually say anything, especially when on private premises

Pretend you are really interested in the reason's behind this and ask where he got his information from. That should stich him up!

Yes I know thank you. I was thinking along the lines that perhaps the mechanic is slightly confused as to his requirements under the regulations. I.e. a mechnic might not be able to deal with such systems in a public place etc (i.e. if there is a risk of explosion) - I was trying to give the mechanic the benefit of the doubt.

Which is more likely than my above suggestion.
