Need a PC upgrade....

Nah, blew the budget well out of the water.

I went with Seagate as the other 2 drives I've got are both Seagate. Plus my best mates wife works for them, so I feel kind of obliged!

Kinda guessed that about the budget lol.

Spinpoint is better, use the seagate as an obligatory ornament.

Well it's only taken 9 months, but I've finally sorted my PC out.

I've ordered the following:-

Intel Nehalem i7 920 S1366 2.66Ghz processor

Gigabyte S1366 Intel X58 DDR3 ATX Audio 2Gbe Lan 3 Channel motherboard

Corsair 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 CL8 RAM

XFX Geforce GTX 260 660MHz 896Mb DDR3 PCIE graphics card.

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB HDD

Should be here tomorrow.

I'm going to run a benchmark with my current setup and then after the upgrade. Am looking forward to seeing the difference it should make!

Nice choice, one of the units I sell is based around that motherboard and processor. Whilst the i7's are rather robust processor, what case and cooling do you have? :)

I'm keeping my current case. I've got 4 case fans and that's all (although I've not had the sides on the case for about 2 years!)

Not sure if the processor comes with a heatsink of some kind?

I'm not going to be overclocking it (to start with ;)) so hopefully that'll be enough. IF not I'll be taking a trip to PC world tomorrow morning!

Do you guys think a 500w PSU is going to be man enough, or is it worth getting something a bit meatier?

If its a retail processor it comes with a heatsink. 500w should be fine as long as its a decent PSU.

If you brought the retail version then it will come with a stock intel HS. 500w would be passable, I wouldn't Overclock with it though. Its not just wattage that states if its upto the job, its its stability too. If its a good brand, Antec, coolermaster, OCZ, corsair or hyper then you should be ok :)
