Ewen
I had the same recently (Hotpoint). Amongst the hints I was given over the phone were... (quoted from an on line source to remind myself) An out of balanced load (too heavy, or a load left wet overnight then spun in the morning after its settled) causing inbuilt out of balance sensor to kick in. Blocked pressure systems. Pressure switch faults. Module faults, Connection faults and PCB faults, as well as motor faults other than (or as well as) worn carbon brushes. In the end, a new circuit board fixed it, at considerable expense.
MrRalphMan
I've sorted my washing machines a few time now with new brushes... But that's when everything works but the spin.
razza
Try the brushes (think that's what they're called, little sprung loaded things attached to the motor), if they've worn out then it won't spin, they're only a few quid each to replace
Scott
If it was the brushes though surely it wouldn't spin at all?
