SupraStormRising
Hi, As I said don't think the interior light comes on when the boot is open, just the warning light. Car not with me at the mo so cannot check. I'll have a look myself I think the likely culprit is gonna be a wire somewhere behind the dash as that's what i've had out to replace the brake booster and brake pedal mounting bracket....! Otherwise it's almighty convienient it's gone at the same time!
SupraStormRising
Thought I would phone the company that installed the alarm to ask what they think.... They don't exist anymore Guess i'll have a go this weekend at sorting it if not hope an autospark can fix it
Guest DaveWilko
Ummmm I have an apology to make I just had a look and my dash light isn't coming on at all. The interior light comes on but not the dash light. I had to use a bright torch to actually find where it was on the dash lol So there could well be a bootlid switch but I'm damned if I can find it. I'll have a look at my workshop parts cd and see if I can find any reference to it. Theres definitely not a bonnet switch tho. The old alarm used its own switch and wiring instructions for the supra for the new alarm said to use the alarm switch also. Its possible facelift ones had a bonnet switch but I don't know. Guest DaveWilko
Ok according to the wiring diagram there is a right door courtesy switch and a left door courtesy switch and two boot light switches but no bonnet switch. One switch in the boot is to manually switch the boot light on or off so we need to find the other switch
Guest DaveWilko
Not all that simple is it? lol. I bet someone has removed the bulb from the warning light on my dash because it had the same problem as yours. The warning light seems to be controlled by that diode in the left kick panel. The door courtesy switches are connected to the diode but the boot light switch is also connected to it with a different wire. This would make sense as Ralph says the interior light doesn't come on when the boot is open but the warning light does. If your interior light goes off when the doors close then this would point to the boot switch being faulty. I'm goin to have a look and see if I switch on the boot light and close the boot does it go out or not. Mine's prob faulty too! Ok when I switch the light on and close the boot the light goes out. The switch is well hidden but either its workin ok or there's a leprachaun in the boot that runs over and switches the light off and on The search button strikes again The switch is in the boot latch. You have to remove the plastic surround to find it
SupraStormRising
I think you maybe onto something thinking about it the light in my boot didn't work before but now it does maybe a coincidence..... As a point of interest if your door open light is always on (just no bulb) your dash exclamation mark light should also be on when the ignition is on (you may have two bulbs removed ) I'll see if I can find that boot switch...! SupraStormRising
Woohoo Diagnosis hopefully complete, the boot interior light stays on with the boot closed (just climbed over to check:)). Is this definately a circuit that causes the "door open light" to come on? Edit: Believe i've answered my own question searching posts which is yes the boot when open does turn on the "Door open light" if anyone knows otherwise let me know... SupraStormRising
Well it's not the switch itself that's broken the cable must be earthing itself somewhere which is why the boot light is on constantly.! Ahhhhh broke the pin holding the passenger kick plate trying to look at the diode for the circuit I feel some wire cutters maybe used to make it a permanant broken circuit!!! (warning light comes on when it's a closed circuit)
Guest DaveWilko
Yeah mate it definitely makes the door open light come on but not the interior light in the roof. Did you pull the plug off the boot switch to see what happens? That should turn the light off. It shouldn't be too hard to trace the wires back. The 2 wires go to the boot light and then down the side panel to the diode. How about the boot light itself? if something is touching inside it then that could cause an open circuit. Bad luck with the pin lol
SupraStormRising
Okay I might be daft but what does the diode actually look like? Will take the plug off tomorrow just had all the boot panels off to check but then had to put them all back on again (lunch break isn't long enough!) Guest DaveWilko
Don't know what the diode looks like but its prob not that anyway if its just the boot switch thats affected. My bet is still faulty switch or a problem in the boot light
SupraStormRising
Mmmm gonna leave till the weekend now me thinks, I will update once i've had a few hours to try and fix it! Edit: What a tit i've been looking at the MKIV.com elec wiring diagrams the interior light diode is drivers side not passengers, lol it's on the panel drivers side with the fuse box! Are you sure? My wiring diagram says LEFT kick panel. That would be the side nearest the kerb surely? MKIV.com is american so the left kick panel would be their drivers side
SupraStormRising
Mmmm maybe thought it was part of J/B No.1 Integration Relay but I don't think it is now from looking at the diagrams again. I have determined the diodes are tiny though!
