DamanC
I have read a few guides here and other places but not really sure about the following question; do i need to rub down a metalic paint during coats, after final coat or not at all? I understand laquer is not ment to be rubbed down (will be my last stage) The primer has already been rubbed down and I am 4 light coats into spaying my cam cover. Any advice appreciated
Lukeyboy2k
do i need to rub down a metalic paint during coats, after final coat or not at all? No - not at all. Any advice appreciated I would rub down the lacquer if you want a smooth, glass-like finish. This may not be as important though seeing as it is only a cam cover and not exterior body work. JustGav
Yup, agreed...You don't sand down a flake/metallic as you will probably crush the particles. Don't go too light with the paint application as well, otherwise the metallic won't have too much depth (It is a balancing act between too much paint which will run and too little which will end up flat) The final coating of lacquer can be lightly sanded with 2000 grit or a proper G3 polish which will help get a nice shine on it.
