Sons 21st earlier in the month, family had clubbed together for a day at Thruxton, which we did on Friday. He got driven around in a Mazda for four laps, then drove a Cayman for four laps, then drove the Lambo LP640 for four laps, then the SRT10 Dodge (this was a bonus, compensation for his slot being overbooked earlier) then finally a Formula Renault single seater for four laps. It rained torrentially all though his session and finally stopped during his de-briefing:d We all got soaked and frozen but he absolutely loved it.

Thats what I did, The single seater is the best as its all down to you with no one next to you saying go slower :D

I got to do it in the dry so I was even luckier.

Did you get the in-car film ? Son did, and its very funny. He was getting his gear changes very wrong and a few non-furum friendly words were heard over the tractor-like transmission noises. Unbelievably wet though, so he couldnt really get up to much hooly.

Apart from the rev limiter. ;)

Thruxton is a great circuit though, I did a single seater day there in 1988.

Yes, the rev limiter was really obvious on the video...and my sons attempts at finding a fifth gear that wasnt actually there:d

Sounds like an awesome day out!

My parents bought me one of them Red Letter track days when I was 21 as well. On the box was a Ford Escort Cosworth which I assumed I would be driving.

When I got there it turned out I only got to drive a stripped out 130bhp Mk2 Escort. I was very disappointed to say the least, the Celica I drove there in was more powerful. Add to that just 3 laps around a course made out of road cones and it was a very rubbish day out. I wrote in and complained but had no reply. It was a 'track' on the A41 near Whitchurch where I went ... :(

Sorry for the hijack! :D

yea rev limiter is annoying, and unfortunatly being a fast circuit you do hit it in the top gear in the dry. What was the rev limit back in 1988 3k rpm :innocent: I was only 5 then lol

I did that once too, 4th to 3rd instead is interesting :D

Sounds like a top day out. My parents looked into something like that for my 21st. Not sure why it never went ahead actually!

If you are younger than 33, and your mother used to be a landlady, then I suppose theres always a chance, that yes, I could be.

Is that the lady from Scarborough Fair you mentioned recently?
