Aero-M
i just brought my car and there are a couple of issuses. the bloke i brought it of converted the kph to mph with the deristrictor kit, now the mileage and trip doesn't go up?????? also the speedo needle bounces around a lot at 70 for example it jumps from around 50 to about 90 odd???? does this sound like anything that can be common? thanks:(
georigg
Martyn, The speedo(and trip/mileometer) is an electronic unit and takes its signal from a speed sensor on the gearbox. Could be either a very dodgy installation or possibly a cheap Ebay special converter that has been installed wrongly. If the speedo is swinging wildly it suggests a poor and/or intermittant connection on the wiring of the converter unit which is causing the signal to vary in voltage(the signal is a voltage "curve" where the volts vary upwards as speed increases) so wild swinging suggests an intermittant connection. If the mileometer does not work it suggests incorrect installation. The converter(if a cheap Ebay unit) will have been fitted at the speed sensor at the gearbox. If its a "proper unit it is fitted behind the speedo head and will only convert the speedo reading from KM to miles(by chopping the signal by 5/8's). The mileometer is then converted by changing the wiring pins at the printed circuit board for the mileometer. Have a look at the technical section which has a good write up on this conversion. I bought my converter from NCS(contact Rebecca - NCS Systems [[email protected]] and she will send you a quote and can also change the mileometer reading from KM to Miles(ie 80K Kilometeres will be changed down to 50K Miles) and also do the wiring change on the printed circuit board for you. Hope this helpful. Georigg
georigg
Martyn, Sorry, a bit of incorrect info above ...... a "good" converter will change the mileometer to reading in Miles but to get the printed circuit unit to display "miles" instead of "Kilometres", the circuit board wiring/connections needs to be modified and if you want the actual reading reduced to reflect "Miles" then it still needs to be sent away. Cost last year for this was about £80 and cost of a "good" converter about £20(EG NCS or others similar). Ebay converters are CR*P! Apologies for mis-info! Your problem still looks like a bad installation though! Georigg
