British Gas

Just looking for advice here,

I moved into a unit on the 1st of january and the previous tenant put my name as the new tenant for the british gas electricity bills (I believe now as he couldnt get out of the contract he was in), now when the first bill came through and I came to pay I was told over the phone that my rates were too high and that I should be paying much less and someone would phone me in the next few days to confirm this.

A few days later I did receive a call and I agreed to the cheaper rates but I found out today that I also 'apparently' agreed to their 3 year contract, I've been looking to change suppliers but i'm unable to because I again 'apparently' verbally agreed to this, I put in a dispute and I will be getting a call later in the week as they will be reviewing the recorded phone call.

I need to get out of this and I'm sure I never agreed to this so what is there I can do? the 'contract' is now regarded as an upgrade to the one the previous tenant had and the contract is also in my company name and not my own, is there anything I can do with this? I also have not signed anything.

Cheers

I take it this is Business Electricity? If so I cannot help as I work in the residential sector.

If you shout loud enough you will get out of anything mate so do not worry about it, unless business side of thing operate differently.

I work for Eon and in business you can be tied down to a contract however you usually do get a 14 day cooling off period in which case you can phone and cancel.

you can verbaly commit over the phone but distant selling regs allow you to hav a get out clause as has been mentioned - if not talk to the ombudsman who will spank them into submission but it could be a lengthy affair
