250horses
Over the last 2 days, its finally been DRY (but very cold). Once again I could push the car to 6800 rpm with no slipping rear end But to my horror on 4-5 occasions in 4th gear at about 5800 rpm the revs stopped (just like a rev limiter kicking in) Boost gauge was reading about 1.1 to 1.2 Bar ( I think, difficult to read and stay on the road at this speed) Normally reads 1.0 bar max. So my question is - will this cold weather raise my boost by 0.1 bar ??? Is this wot happens when a FCD cuts in (just like a rev limiter) Today was a little warmer and the revs remained normal upto red line In the autumn car always went up to red line happily all the time
Jake
Yes it sounds like fuel cut. Is this wot happens when a FCD cuts in a FCD doesn't kick in, it stops fuel cut happening, or raises the level at which it happens. Do you have a FCD fitted? If so is it a Thor one? In your Sig, what is a Fat Stainless?
250horses
Ok i changed my signature My ECU has a little black box bigger than a fag pack attached to it which is assumed to be a FCD
Jake
ah, I guessed that it was referring to an exhaust. As you probably know, a fully decatted Jspec with a free-flowing aftermarket exhaust will usually make too much boost (over 1.25bar) The Thor FCD raises the fuel cut point to 1.25bar. Most other FCDs remove fuel cut altogether, this is not a good idea. A Thor FCD is smaller than a fag packet though, so I guess yours isn't a Thor one. uksupra
actually most fuel cut defenders raise thye boost cut level so that there still is protection but at a higher settable level... for example the hks fcd you have to set it as low as possible without affecting other functions of the boost pressure sensor... when i first installed mine i set it real low and it stopped the sequential system working properly as the ecu was not seeing enough boost to open the require vsvs so it needs to be set to a level where by fuel cut is stopped but all other functions remain... http://www.mkiv.com recommends using the greddy fcd as it works a better equation out regarding boost level to ecu than the hks fcd... when you hit fuel cut you will know... your dash will light up like a xmas tree and ya head will smack the windscreen!!!!
