help bmw 5 series TRANS. PROGRAM SAFE accelaration prob

BMW 530d Auto (manual and auto box in one) 2002

 

Morning All,

 

Hope you all had a good xmas and a great new year.....

 

Friday evening while driving to drop a friend off in my dash board appeard a warning light readinf something in the lines of

 

TRANS. PROGRAM SAFE

 

The car drove for a bit then struggled to move or take off accelarate nothing really happening, Rang a mate who said remove key for a min and try which worked for a few minutes and ame problem at lights it would wouldnt take off or really move unless turned off and on ... problem got anage to get home vechile apprently locks it self in 3/4th gear as limp home gear

 

I drove it a little last night thinking may have re-set but not any better, from beneth the passenger door a bit of smoke came

 

Before i face the bill's of dealerships ha sany one had theis problem or possibly know what it could be

 

Could it be the gear box cars done about 114k 530d sport auto step tronic 52 reg

i doubt it mate, from what i've read, briefly mind, it could be a number of things. best get the error codes and take it from there :)

 

edit: it's also meant to act like a safety mode to prevent damge, so doubt your gearbox has had it to be honest ;)

i had simialr problem with my 523i auto, i took it in to work and got it put on the computer and had all the codes cleared. when they checked it there was a crack in a pipe at the back of the engine. this meant that things were over heating and idleing rough. had a new pipe put on to it and it seemed to fine there after. not sure ifs the same prob as you got - my problem definetly wasnt a fudged gearbox though. it had done 118k
