JS2004 Posted September 12, 2010 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Ive got my hands on a glass scratch removal kit from planet polish - and wondered if anyone else has used this type of thing before. The box contains some sandpaper (called "special" but I suspect its 1200-1500), bottle of cerium oxide, felt pads and an attachment for a drill / rotary. The instructions say use sandpaper on deeper scratches and then the cerium oxide on the lighter scratches and it should get rid of them, or improve them. Im mianly concerned about a chip that I had repaired and figured I would go around it - and also I am aware that windscreens generally have a plastic type of layer between two pieces of glass, so building up heat could warp that (or crack screen). So... has anyone used it before?? I eed to do something as the low sun means on the way home im getting blinded (assuming because of all the scratches) and the reflection from the dash doesnt help! Im going to give it a go over a weekend - found a thread on detailers world with a "how to" guide which I shall try to follow. Just concerned about damaging the heated window function.. if it can be? Oh.. and concerned about ending up with a cracked windscreen.. definately a case of petience. Maxx Posted September 12, 2010 Share Posted September 12, 2010 Used a similar kit from MachineMart a while ago to remove a pretty deep scratch on my drivers side window. It used an abrasive disc to remove the scratch then a liquid polish on a fibre wheel to polish it . Worked perfectly although was nervous as hell doing the first stage to remove the scratch!
