supra_surj
Hi guys i have a problem with my water at home and i wanted your opinions. A couple of days ago the our water started coming out abit cloudy. didnt think nothing of it until i went to fill the bath. The cloudy water turned into this dark brown liquid. Rang thames water and they said that if the downstairs cold water is clear (which comes straight from the mains) then its not a problem with them. The boiler has been making a very loud rumbling noise so we turned all heating and water off. I let the taps run for quite a while yesterday and the water went clear. Today i put the heating and hot water on and the water turned brown again. We have been living here for 20yrs and its an old system. What do you guys suggest? any help will be much appreciated. Chris Wilson
Sell it as alcohol free beer on Ebay? Sell it as Ganges water on Ebay? Risk it, a good purgative is supposed to work wonders? Get a free suntan when you have a bath? The boilers probably overheating and it's dislodging rust and sediment as the water boils. May just need a new stat. Professionals will tut tut and try and sell you a new one, with stories of safety, efficiency and suchlike. IMO most OLD things are far more durable and reliable than the new fangled, computer controlled stuff, but I am not a plumber. I tend to think that the heavier such things are, the better they are

merckx
I remember when we used to have our back boiler and the hot water tank upstairs in the bedroom, we had the coal fire for the back boiler blazing like mad and it actually boiled the water and you would get a loud rumbling noise from the upstairs tank. We never had a problem with discoloured with though. I would probably just try and run the water and see if it does eventually go clear. supra_surj
Mmmm interesting. Thanks for the replies. I did run the water most of yesterday and eventually it ran clear. I thought great but this morning when the hot water went on the water started turning brown again. If it is the stat is that an expensive job? Im getting the loud rumble as you described so maybe its something similar. So hard to pin point whats wrong. S
