This happened to me, although slightly different circumstances, im unsure what lengths they will go to tho, it is bs how the seller is punished automatically even when you have proof of postage, paypals t & cs have no common sense involved and the paypal helpline is in another country so all they do is quote the t & c's to you in half broken english.

Without a tracking number you are screwed (sorry to be blunt).

Phones are the most dodgy things on eBay with the number of con artists etc. They always try that trick (or the 'can you post to Nigeria' one). Never Ever sell anything over £32 (standard RM insurance) without a tracking number (especially phones).

If you do not have a tracking number, paypal can't prove that the buyer has the item and thus they refund him and then you owe them the money. They have the legal power to do this and you accept it as it's in their terms and conditions.

Sadly, I think everyone here is correct. All you can really do is pay PayPal back and put it down to experience.

When you sell something on ebay, the optional insurance isn't for the buyer's protection - it's for the seller. It's your responsibility to ensure the buyer receives their goods. Even if you don't have insurance for the postage, your responsibility to the buyer is the same.
