Robert
Ok, ive been trying to get to bottom of my overboosting problems, now im 100% sure its this stupid screamer pipe that is causing it. Im not getting into the whole "who did it" thing but i want to know if its crap LOL
paul mac
your pic is a bit vague, you will suffer overboost if your wastegate does not open correctly or (as i had on mine) the pipework to or from the wastegate is to small, if you are thinking its the screamer pipe just take it off
JustGav
It isn't ideal as that is a bit of a sharp bend... not sure if that would cause serious overboost though...
Robert
I couldnt get a better picture with the rain and crap here all day, but i know the pipework to the wastegate is fine and im sure its opening up right. Its just the sharp angle the screamer pipe comes off was worrying me. I would just remove it but its facing my steering joint.
Alex
What's the diameter of the pipe? Assuming you have the 50mm HKS gate I'd hope the pipe was a good 2.5" wide.
Robert
I will take it off tomorrow and measure the diameter, im using a 46mm wastegate by the way Alex. I will run the car off the wastegate spring and see if that ok.
Alex
If you take the pipe out, don't drive it!! You don't want to vent into the engine bay, that's nuts!
Robert
LOL no i wasen't going to drive it without a pipe on.
Pig
Might be worth checking your manifold as that is what was causing gaz1's over boosting problem. Assuming your still on your XS power manifold
Alex
Good point Jon, didn't realise we were talking about XS power kit! You may be suffering from a small diameter port to the WG to start with.
Robert
Already had mark at phoenix deal with the small port, he sorted that part out fine.
Robert
I had to use the XS power kit due to the straight turbo flange, there is less room in the aristo engine bay.
paul mac
LOL no i wasen't going to drive it without a pipe on. a quick blat really wont do any harm to proove whether its the problem or not, if your worried about the steering joint just do a temporary wrap with something heat resistant
Wez
How much are you over boosting by and are you still using the AEM to control it?
Robert
Well i haven't really pushed it lately but i remember seeing 1.4 bar at some point, yes the AEM is controlling it but i think my problem might be the way its set up, i'll run off the spring and totally bypass the aem to control it. dangerous brain
Mine holds a bar of boost all day long on the spring no problems. (well it will when I finally get the damn thing fixed)
