kieren1234
I had one a few months back and i cut mine off with a scalpol. Bloody hurt but problem solver, and ingroing toe nails dont have fricking hurt!!
robin
You cut the whole thing off?? thing to do is let it grow and cut the nail straight. this helps to uncurl it and prevent it ingrowing.
CJ
Just cut an in-grown toenail off. It may not have been a good idea. Definitely not a good idea my old mate. If they are giving you problems, go to your GP and get him/her to book you into the local podiatry clinic.

marbleapple
I tried that a few times but it back fires. What you dont realise is that when you cut it, the nail grows in the direction it is cut, thus you just make the situation worse for next time. Doing what you did Ewen resulted in 2 operations in 2 years on different toes and bandages for weeks. Was not pretty and was very painful. As CJ says, next time go to the doctors
Guigsy
mine grown sideways into the flesh at the side of my toe. huts like buggery if i don't cut it off, but when i do it heals up in a week or so and then its perfect. just be carefull with it. give it lots of air and keep it cleen. foot infections are an absolute bastard to get rid off as your feet are often warm and sweaty. and if it goes too far... well put it this way. there is a big vein in your leg that goes right to your heart.... you dont want an infection going anywhere near there... Ewen
You cut the whole thing off?? I cut about a quarter of an inch off its length, or as far as I could dig the scissors into. Definitely not a good idea my old mate. If they are giving you problems, go to your GP and get him/her to book you into the local podiatry clinic. I know, I know, but it was killing me and I lost my temper with it. This thread is useless without pics!! H. :)Why, dont you believe me ? Ewen
I've cut it short, but nice and straight. The bit that was giving me grief was like a hook, down into the skin, and I've got rid of that. The docs did it a few months back, but it came back. Maybe I should have it removed. Both my big toes now look like blind cobblers thumbs but there is no more problem with the in growing nails

Homer
Defo get to your GP, you don't want to have it operated - trust me!. After a minor infection I had to have the entire nail removed, 10 mins after having it done the local anaesthetic wore off. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced

creative
also been there and done that! Dropped a case of beer on my toes when i was younger and that started the ingrowing process off. Went and had both nails cut either side. the pain was excruciating as they tried without anesthetic first to see how bad it was....almost threw up due to the pain! keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get infected as you have basically done what they would have done. Ewen
I'll see the doc, honest. But right now, apart from a little bleeding, the relief is fantastic. All washed and TCPed up. Thanks for all the advice:)
