Clutch Problem!

Recommended Posts

Evening all.

Im trying to pinpoint a clunking noise i have coming from the clutch/Gearbox assembly area.

In neutral, clutch down and up makes no noise what so ever!

1st Gear, pulling away is fine, push the clutch down to go into second gear and i get a very small but noticable metallic clunking sound (Almost sounds like something being dropped and bouncing slightly). Clutch goes back up and no noise.

I'll pull up somewhere and put the clutch down and the noise is there again.

If i sit in 1st gear and get to the biting point and push down on the clutch again the noise always occurs!

Ive been given the following suggestions so far....

1: Propshaft is moving/loose?

2: Control arm bushes? (Im guessing they mean clutch arm)

3: Release bearing for the clutch?

4: Dodgy clutch/flywheel?

So come on guys, please tell me the bad news so i can get the b*****d thing stripped and repaired asap! lol:rolleyes:

i think the 5 speed box spoilt you :)

when the 6 speed, flywheel, and/or gearbox/clutch/bearings get worn (not worn out) the car in my experience makes various noises.

I personally would refresh everything when the clutch fails, but i suppose it depends on if you can live with the 'noticeable' noise between now and then......

NB crouch beside your idling car and get someone to turn it off.....does it rattle (from the gearbox area) to a stop? and does it do it if its turned off with the clutch down?
