Has anyone here attempted to get a permanent visa for the US

I had a chance to go some years ago with the company I was working with, BUT if I left the company and had not recieved a green card at that point (can take years !) you would have to come home, that really put me off, I did do plenty of work on a temp basis there though and really enjoyed it ;)

I had the same thing, basically the company I worked for sponsored the visa, had I wanted to change jobs I would have been forced to get the new company to do the same.

If you take someone out with you they will be unable to get a visa on the basis that you have one, they would also need some form of sponsorship or a visa of their own (that was the case in 2000 at least).

3 months. I did this for a year when I worked in Dallas. Basically did a 3 month contract, got on plane to uk for a few days then came back for another 3 months.

Customs used to stop me but I had a company letter saying I was the only one able to do the job and i was training others in the US to take over from me.
