RedM
For some months, maybe a year all told, I've had pains in my legs. Mostly around the thigh area but sometimes the whole leg, groin, buttocks, right knacker only! and small of the back area. It's never REALLY bad for long but it is chronic (as in long-term). I seem to have two separate issues. One is the all over pains and the other seems to be a strain in the right groin area. Honestly, it's dropped me lack a sack of spuds on occasions, nearly making me fall down some stairs! I've all but given up Kendo and Iaido due to this and a day out shopping etc pretty much does me for days. It's got so that I cannot sit at work without feeling really uncomfortable. Lying down with my weight on my left side seems best. When I move after periods of inactivity I'm stiff like an old man but light walking seems to help. Anyways, question time. Is it best to see a doctor first or go to a physio?

Dazzi
Sounds like lack of circulation in your legs. First see a doc and do some running/cycling
Class One
Doc first Martin, who will probably refer you either for an MRI to see if there is any structural problems with your back, and then perhaps to a physio. This is similar to what I've been suffering, and I'm just embarking on physio now. I've managed to lose 1+1/2 stone in weight and started taking regular exercise. You need to exercise your back sitting around doesn't help, it's a big flexible joint andneeds to be used. Brisk walking will help, swimming, nothing too vigourous to start with.Try and get hold of a copy of "The Back Book" it's a very good guide to helping you manage your back. RedM
I had an op to remove a pilonidal sinus back in '93 and due to leaving it for so long they removed a LOT of tissue. The result was 17months and 2 weeks healing time! During this time I couldn't sit properly so kind of half sat, half lay on my left side. This has caused my spine to curve and I also have Sciatica on top of all this. However, sciatica aside it hasn't really caused me much trouble except this last 'year'. I do have exercises that I'm supposed to do every morning but you know what it's like. Get up and stretch or sleep! Booking a doctors appointment tomorrow. Will probably be an old man before they get me in!
garetheves
Yeah see the doc first, they will probably send you for physio first then an MRI if it doesnt get better.
loks
I had a similar problem for about 2 years and it was just getting worse, pains in leg (sciatica mostly), lower back pain, couldn't sit down for 15 minutes at a time, flappy uncontrollable left foot occassionally - only comfort came when I lay down in a certain position. Eventually I had enough of doctors telling me to exercise more and it would go away - checked myself in for a MRI scan at teh hospital. It turned out that I had a collapsed disk between lumba 4 & 5 and the crap from inside the disk had "squeezed" out internally and was actually touching the spinal chord A quick keyhole surgery to trim up the crap from around the disk and 6 weeks of physio later - a new man. That was 8 years ago and I have no problems with back or legs. But now I suffer from gout and that's another story Get yourself checked ASAP, it's better to catch these problems earlier rather than later - believe me.
