Rattle in the left rear quarter area

Supra-Brett

Recommended Posts

Hi all - Ive had my supra for about 6 months now. There is an anoying rattle in the rear passenger side quarter area. At first i thought it must be a dodgy bush on the suspension and this was backed up when i got an advisory notice in the MOT for the Upper rear suspension arm. I had the suspension arm fixed and the rattle was still there. Ive removed everything from the boot and its still there. Any ideas ?

Ive seen an advert on E-bay for new lower and upper boot rubbers and they recon it does wonders for rattles. Do you think this is the problem ? Is this a common fault on supras ?

Please put me out of my misery, the rattle is driving me mad.

The lower boot rubbers are a common problem, (they are about £8 a pair from Toyota, have a search for the part no's)

be warned though that quite often the little bolts are loctited in to place.

You may have to heat them up before trying to loosen them.

  • 6 months later...

OK, this rattles been going on for about 12 months now and its really starting to piss me off (and its got a bit worse).

This is what i have tried so far.

1) Replaced upper rear suspension arm

2) Had exhaust checked for knocking and had new rubber mounts fitted just in case.

3) Had the loose rear veilside spat fixed

4) Replaced the boot rubbers

5) Removed everything from the boot

6) Had a local (non specialist) garage check for obvious problems to no avail.

Suffice to say the rattle is still there.

It really does sound like a suspension area rattle but i havent got a clue now.

Any ideas ?

How is the exhaust heat shield ?

Im guessing the garage checked that. I remember going under the car briefly when i collected it and he showed me what they had done. All seemed well at the back end where he was showing me around the back box. Where exactly is the heat shield ? (sorry im no mechanic, and can just about recognise the exhaust). I never spotted anything that looked like a heat shield at the time.
