Guest joyrider
As above and apologies if this question is been asked a million times before. I tried to search for it but found nothing. I want to get the pads off but not sure what bolts to take off?? I'm not very technical. I see 2 17mm bolts that hold the calliper in place. There is 4 14mm bolts that run along at the back of the caliper(they undo pretty easy) Do I need to remove all? Which first? Any advice much appreciated . uk-rich
leave the bolts, its the 2 pins you need to remove
Guest joyrider
Yoy mean the two long ones holding the pads and a metal clamp? So no bolts at all to be removed?
uk-rich
yes the 2 pins holding the pads in !!, if you have already undone the 14mm bolts you have probably f@@ked the job up already as these are the bolts that hold the caliper togther
Marty
take the clip out the back, its holding the caliper pins in place. And the pins should slide out, the pads then just pull out, easy Unless your pins are binded in And then its a right fecker of a job getting them out! Guest joyrider
I didn't remove the 14mm bolts...I just tried to see how hard they were ... they are still on i turned them maybe half a turn if that. Thanks for your advice I will try to get the pins off...It looks quite straight forward but knowing my luck they won't be.
Guest joyrider
I managed to get the pins out and the pads are out too... But those 14mm bolts I had undone slightly ....When I redone the top one a bit of liquid dripped out on the pad. As in I tightened the 14mm bolt before I took out the pins and pads. But not enough for it to spill on the floor.. Any dangers there? There is no leaks at the moment.
Scooter
ok two dangers........ Firstly air has got into the system........fluid out can mean air got in......... Secondly those 14mm bolts shouldn't have been loosened...see here for info I'd tighten up the 14mm bolts, give it a good clean up and then bleed the brakes.........When you have tightened the bleed nipple check for a firm brake peddle and then check for any leaks from the caliper........do daily/weekly inspections of the caliper and brake fluid level........... and next time do a thorough search for a 'how to' guide beforehand!
