My Car troubles continue.....but thankyou Bob!

Hi all,

Well Bob from the forum came round today to help sort out some of my boost piping and test the O2 sensor and AFR readings. Great guy and thank you very much Bob - sorry I slept in late! :)

Basically, an O2 sensor has been replaced before and was soldered to the old loom but poorly. Bob thought this might of caused a loose connection which led to the very rich AFR readings on idel (in the 11's/12's). We replaced this, but sadly the readings are the ame. All other connectors check out fine, but it looks like a new O2 sensor is needed - not a m:innocent: assive problem.

My boost piping is very weird though. It looks like someone has fitted a UK spec (are they different??) top turbo pipe which doesn't have a feed for the charcoal cannister and has a much larger hole for the cam breather hose - which was also in very poor condition. Why would someone do this? Do you need this for Hybrids?:search:

Anyways, it's being trailored to Turbofit on Tuesday, but I need the following guys:

  • New O2 sensor - preferably the Toyota OEM one
  • J-spec Top Turbo Pipe

Still smokes a hell of a lot and I think there's a load of oil in the system - the intercooler is probably drenched.

Anyway, slowly eliminating yet MORE problems and thanks again to Bob for helping me out. Really appreciate it mate. ;)

Thanks all.

Greg

Hi guys,

It's the Top Turbo pipe Guru as per this pic matey. One that connects to cam breather hose and has inlet for charcoal cannister. It must be a UK one on there or something at the moment as the cannister inlet has been welded up!!!

Rob - the loom should be OK, the sensor is FUBAR'd though. I would prefer to have the whole shabang, i.e. new O2 Toyota OEM sensor which has the loom attached and plugs into the engine connected sensor, but would be happy to solder a working sensor onto the existing loom. The connections on the loom all tested out A-OK, so it's just the sensor that's knackered mate.

Thanks ;)

No probs Greg, shame we couldn't get to the bottom of all the problems!

Just a few points for anyone that can help -

i.) There's still enough slack in the O2 sensor loom to chop off and hard-wire another non-Toyota O2 sensor

ii.) Diagnostic readings fluctuated between 0.32 and 0.36v on the OX1 port

iii.) It's the inlet pipe to turbo #1 that is needed; there is nothing to attach the charcoal canister outlet to, and the PCV hose fixing is about 5mm bigger than the cam cover outlet (possibly why somebody had cut the original hose in half and loosely shoved it inside a larger diameter hose!)

iv.) Had a good listen at idle and couldn't hear any leaks from any pipes - couldn't check with any revs though as the whole of the road would have been blacked out by the smoke! :D

I mentioned to Greg that I thought it could be seal related inside the turbos - as they are water-cooled (correct me if I'm wrong here! :) ) would it not be possible for them to be leaking both coolant and oil? Hence the mayo in his exhaust . . . (or somebody local has a real love of Supras!)

:edit: Doh! Too slow!
