michael
You don't, that's the idea You could always create a new one, tell the router and both machines about it and then away you go....
chilly
Is it not the serial number on the router, I seem to remember me doing the same and it was a key serial number. I'm a bit of a fookwit where computers are concerned

Ian W
WEP is a password that's created by yourself when setting up the security on the router. if you can log onto your router and look at the settings with the laptop that's already on the network you can just get the password from there to get your new laptop on it. EDIT: beg your pardon, i'm thinking WPA-PSK but the principle is the same
Mike
Is it written on a sticker on the bottom of the router?

Doh, good plan - a lot of them leave it sat there in plain text so you can copy it and use it on the new machine.

Ian W
how can i do that mate:D if it's a netgear simply type 192.168.0.1 into your web address bar in your web browser and you'll get a pop up asking for the username and password to log onto the router itself. there's a basic username and password setup for Netgear routers but it could have been changed (did you install it?). then it's just a case of going to the Wireless Settings menu and you may be able to get it from there.
