Digsy
My girlfriend has just bought a Volvo V70 (one of us has to have a sensible car!) When you put your foot down it makes a whistling noise which is difficult to locate. I think it it is coming from the engine bay but she thinks it is coming from behind. The noise is not engine speed or vehicle speed related. It appears to be related solely to engine load, i.e. throttle position. We have explored the following: 1) Exhaust leak: Seems OK. 2) Vacuum hoses: All seem OK. 3) Inlet manifold: No apparent leaks from gasket. Someone on Volvoclub.org.uk suggested a "known clutch problem" but hasn't expanded on it. Doesn't seem likely because it isn't speed related. There was a dodgy looking seal on the WOT breather pipe which seems like a good candidate to me. This has been replaced (the car hasn't been driven since). Anyone got any other ideas?
