Pabs
Hey all, Now Luke (Lucas) know's which day he can pick his Supra up, we need to get travel sorted. We need to get from Portsmouth to Newcastle, on the Sat 14th (or FOR Sat 14th) Being Naive we thought we'd still be able to get our tickets for £28 each by train - however looks like we've left it too late and cheapest now is £110 a ticket! I've found an option of a 9pm ish train getting there at 8am in the morning - which is cheap - but includes a 5-6hr sit around in Doncaster. Luke's told me that he doesn't have a passport that's valid (i think that was his excuse lol) so flying is out of the question (although easyjet do it from Stansted-newcastle for £28.) Tried the following: Megabus, thetrainline, virgin trains, qjump, moneysavingexpertsforums, National express..... Anyone got any other hints/tips? Any replies please folks - and don't say we're screwed! lol

dangerous brain
Er you can board a flight internally with a driving license and the fee from newastle to soton is well cheap.
Pabs
ah well we didn't find many flights that were that cheap anyway. EDIT: Didn't know you could fly in country without passport though - you learn something new every day! We've booked train from Pompey to London now, and then megabus from London to Newcastle - the bus cost us £11.50 each, and train about £18. So all in all, not too bad really, just gonna take a fair while do get there and back again.
Whitesupraboy2
and back again. You'll find this part of the journey pretty quick....but more expensive

My engineer had to go to Newcastle and they wouldn't let him without a passport. Had to drive in the end. My boss wasn't pleased - the flight was non-refundable. Charlotte
When we went up to Glasgow they didn't check our passports at all. You could have probably got a cheap flight from Southampton to Newcastle.
Gaz Walker
Not sure if you can hire a car at one company in Portsmouth, and drop it off at the same companies depot is Newcastle? Will be more expensive but worth a shot. Swim?

My boss wasn't pleased - the flight was non-refundable. You need proof of ID - not a passport, and that's even true for European flights. My g/f never used her passport to fly here when she lived in Cannes.

Hired a car at one airport, went home, dropped the car back at a different airport at the end of leave.

Pabs
lol - thanks for all the thoughts guys. Cheapest flight i could find from Southampton to Newcastle was circa £25, and the fact that Luke would have to then get from up near Petersfield way would probably have added a few bob to the travelling anyway, so this was just as good. One thing about flying though - it'd have been a hell of a lot quicker! Looking forward to the drive home though - although i won't be driving, it'll be good to be sat in a Supra again
