TRD3000GT
Just wondering what you guys consider to be optimum oil temprature... The from - to.. I this heat Im showing 80 - 95-100 at times..
Ray
Thats what temp range mine is normally at too... I heard that its good to get it over 100 every now and then so that moisture in the oil boils off...
JohnA
It's fine, you don't want it over 120C very often though. Depends on the oil age as well as if it is fully synth.
SimonB
Depends where your sensor is. Temps are quite a lot lower in the bottom of the sump than by the oil filter for example.
Lebsteif
What temp should it have when the sensor is at oil filter?

Soonto_HAS_soop
I've only ever had mine upto 107.2 in this heat on a WOT pull on the motorway, my problem is the 117 degree water temperature....
JamieP
my temp sensor is in a plate between the oil filter and i get a max reading of 110 on a spirited drive:)
terribleturner
Mine hit 130 just before my bottom end went
bignum
ive seen 117 on a trackday, driving hard for 5,6 laps thats with the sensor in a sandwich plate, my bro ran a ford v6 upto 140 on semi synth oil and lets just say it developed a knock on the bottom end lol.i think with good quality oil your ok upto 120d/c short term ,,? tDR
According to Silkolene the Pro S 10W50 is good to 120 deg C and club oil analysis over on sxoc.com has shown cars used on track running this oil at temps higher than this without problems. Think Oilman (Opie Oils) then asked Silkolene's head chemist guy about max temp of this oil and they reckoned it was good up to 140 deg C! Think the plate raises the temperature due to the sensor being housed in metal.... Mine hits 120 on the gauge regularly, but I have seen somewhere that the sandwich plate, naturally raises the temp...
