Bicycle, Cyclist Rant

Whats going on in London...Ken Livingston and the Labour party are planning to spend £15milion on more cycle lanes and sending people out to schools to encourage kids to get on their bikes...fine.

All this during the hot spell obviously..but what about the normal weather climate here in this country....like rain, snow etc..

Its ok for all the rich people that live in Kensington to cycle about everywhere..but what about the people in the suberbs how the hell would i be able to cycle to the west end..with a fag hanging out of my mouth in the pouring rain...

So ok...say we all got rid of our cars and started cycling and gave up smoking too..yeah great what a perfect would it would be...apart from the fact that the Government would have bugger all money for public services!

Who the hell in their right mind would want to commute to the West end on a bike especially in the winter months..I like the way they are 'pushing' all this now...yep possibly a slightly good idea no because its warm for a few days!

I have a mountain bike...but i use it for fun..

Yep I know Ken Livingston is not into cars but thats because hes always pissed and then gets a cab which we pay for...like the one he once took from Blackpool to London that cost us taxpayers £600.

Things are changing..we will be expected to give up driving nice cars and get on our bikes...all mostly because we have a bunch of piss heads in power that dont drive because they dont have to and it dosn't make a difference to them!

Your Thoughts Please lol.

Ken Livingston is a grade A cnut. I live 50 miles from work and often have to leave at 2 or 3 in the morning - how am I supposed to avoid using a car Ken? He's given over half the roads to bus lanes, more to cycle lanes, then charges me £8 a day to travel on the potholed excuse for road that's left. But what do you expect from a Major who before elected, stated "I hate cars, if I ever get any form of power again I'll ban the bloody lot".

Anyway back onto bikes :D

I think as usual he's being idealistic. Not everyone can cycle everywhere and even fewer want to. Never mind the saftey aspect of so many more cyclists on the road - it's all well and good having cycle lanes but they've got to start and end somewhere, and unless there's going to be one outside every house at some point they'll have to share the road with the cars / commercial / industrial vehicles.

I drive into central London a lot, and I can honestly say the majority of the mid afternoon traffic is now company vans and couriers, not private vehicles.

And breathe out.... ahhhh that's better :D

thing is like Rosie has said, all year round cyclists exists but they are to a degree nuts and certainly would ride wherever they need to regardless of the 'improvements' or otherwise made for cyclists.

These 'improvements' IMO will not encourage any significant uptake because again you still need that element of determination/insanity to do this all the time.

I keep highlighting 'improvements' as i never saw them as such when i cycled alot.

eg painted cycle lanes of say a metre wide but only where the road is wide enough when it narrows you have none so whats the point of them where its wide?

Pavements shared with pedestrians and dismount points to cross each exit of the roundabout........if you want to turn right approaching a roundabout i don't know any keen cyclist that would take this new/improved/safer route over the usual go round it like a car one...........

its a blantant waste of money........

Don't like Ken then Si ? I thought you'd think he was some sort of hero what with him being such a fooking leftie like your good self:)

Got an excercise bike, that's as far as it goes. That's crap and gets in the way but great for throwing cloths over.

I keep forgetting Im sposed to be a leftie...Yep well its difficult being a Leftie whilst driving a 3.4 petrol Landcruiser..

Yeah i got one of those rowing machines, its on eof those things you buy on a whim, along with a breville sandwich toaster (untill you need the plug for something more useful)

What makes me laugh about people who claim to be 'left wing Socialist' they all tend to live in £million pound houses in Islington or somewhere..of course they wanna ban cars..if they owned one it get nicked where they live..

And they dont like the thought of people with less money then them driving nicer cars than them.

Socialist Millionaires...they make me puke!
