tbourner
We have a Triton Topaz t100i in the house, hasn't worked since we moved in, worked out that the on/off switch broke and the previous tried to fix it; but ended up trapping a ribbon cable in the temperature gear and ripped it to bits!!!! Replaced the ribbon and button, the shower now works but randomly comes up with a 'low pressure' warning when you change the temp figure!!! No order to it though it's not just at high temperatures for example, but once you find a number that works (this time) it seems to stay on. The tap that it feeds from works fine and all supplies are OK, so it's something in the shower itself - any ideas? Is it worth buying a new one (I can get one pretty cheap) and are the fitments always the same on power showers or will I need to move the pipework in the wall?!!??!?! Ark
You sure it's a power shower, not just an electric shower? Fitments are normally a compression joint for 15mm copper pipes (I've only ever done one though)
black cat
the stat on it controls that lp red warning screen. when you turn up the heat the flow slows down to allow the water to heat up. If the water pressure at the source is down because the water board have turned it down any other use in the house will cause the shower to switch off with that lp warning. it could be that or the stat is broken which is a new order part i think. ask the neighbours if they are having similar probs before you go nuts with triton. hope this helps, if not then buy a new one. also... what kw are you running? 8.6,9.5 or 10.
Matt H
Not sure about powerful showers but there seems to be a scary amount on info on powerful guns just recently!
tbourner
What's the difference between and electric and power shower? It's not pumped as far as I know - works as black cat said just slows the flow rate when you want hotter water. That all works OK the water gets slower and faster with the control knob, still a HUGE ammount of water pressure from the tap on the bath (same feed pipe), no other problems in the house, plus it's random - sometimes comes on when it's set to hot and sometimes on cold, if I find one setting that works it stays OK until I switch off at the mains electric, then may or may not work the next time!!! What unit measures the pressure level? Can I check a connection anywhere?
black cat
the stat talks a regulator valve which controls the amount of water running through the unit as it needs to control the flow to heat up, from what you say it sounds like this part is broken. id buy a like for like unit mate and just replace it. power showers are mains feed hot water and cold mix. electric are only cold water feed. you can buy a pump which boosts a mains feed shower therefor power shower. i dont think its possible to have a very powerfull electric power unless you have an insane amount of power say 15kw..... which is not available the most is 10.5 but rquires a massive cable from the mains box on a shorter length. Ark
I used to run a 9.5kw electric shower (no pump) off 8mm core mains lead, into a 40amp MCB on the consumer unit.

But why does the flow rate work as it should then? The water comes out the head faster when you turn it to cold and slower as you turn it to hot, whilst randomly the element switches on and off as the knob goes round!!! tbourner
eh? It works OK because it's broken? What's broken? The heating element?
Jake
Power showers don't have a heating element. A power shower just mixes hot and cold water from the domestic supply and pressurizes it. A power shower is as fast-flowing on max hot as it is on the coldest setting.

Can't see how a thermostat would cause a low pressure warning!
RedM
My parents have a power shower that, if you turn the head upside down, will keep a cricket ball aloft in the stream of water. And yes, at full boost it does hurt delicate areas of ones body.
Todd
Anyone know about power showers? Yeah, if you get an irish man to say power shower 3 times it's really funny Sorry:innocent:

We've got a power shower and yeah they can hurt especially on massage setting:blink: Aqualisa with a Stuart Turner pump seems to be a great combination for us, cheap pumps are crap and give nothing but problems. Fahrenheit
it could also be the inlet filter near the 15mm copper inlet these have a tendency to break and caught up inside the heating element. Its common with the dodgy water weve got down here an electric shower could only last 12-18 months - especially the higher KW models. Other tip is to open up the unit and if possible take out the heating element canister - then descale it using a mixture of pouring vinegar into the element then adding a bit of boiling water - works every time. Good luck
tbourner
Cheers, we did clean the filter so it's definitely still there! Might try the element clean before buying an else!!

tbourner
Well we did buy another one off eBay for £50, and it keeps making hissing noises - is that normal? Sounds almost like steam, sometimes after it's been turned off and sometimes during running. Bit worried this one's gonna snuff it too.

tbourner
Triton Topaz t100i, originally a 9.5Kw replaced with a 8.5Kw from eBay.
edge
They done 2 of them. One is later that is an opal shape and the other is a tall rectangular shape with back light numbers on the dial. Either way is the noise sounding like a kettle boiling? Is there any leaks inside?
tbourner
This is a rounded shape one. sounds like steam escaping, not a boiling noise though. No leaks that I know of, there was some water coming out the bottom at one point but that seems to have stopped.
edge
If you take cover off you will see a little round window at the bottom with a screw in the middle of it, Its on the bottom left . Base of the heater can ( largish manky yellow colour). Have a look for scale in it. If there is Pm me and i will talk you through it. If not done right you can loose one or two elements. Make sure the shower head is realy clean too. These units are realy fussy when it comes to scale.
