Gearbox oil temp sensor routing

Hi all, looking to install an Oil Temp sensor and gauge for my auto, what’s the best routing up into the car for these?
 

Ideally want to avoid main dash area as I can’t be bothered taking it off again. So thinking either centre console, glovebox or maybe by drivers left leg area.

Is there a grommet in the floor to go through under the carpet or am I best off taking it up through gear shifter boot? If that’s even possible on an auto

 

for anyone interested I’ve purchased one of these which saves the hassle of welding a bung in the pan. It replaces the drain plug but has a connection for the sensor.

There are grommets on the passenger side of the tunnel. I have concerns about using the sump hole for the temp sensor..good idea but id be worried about something catching it and ripping the wiring away.

Maybe go in at the side of the sump near the dipstick, drill a hole and use a fitting with a crush washer and a crush washer/ bolt on the inside of the pan? Or drill a hole and tap the sump, but the metals thin.

Only thing is you would have to drain the 2l from the pan, drop it and reseal it having to wait near 24hrs for leaks coming down to clear up before resealing.

Thanks again mate! I’ve got 10 litres of Toyota stuff so I could do it the right way. If it’s a little precarious then I’ll get a bung welded in. The car is stock height tho so would have to bottom out quite badly to rip it off. Might he able to find a 90 degree sensor

It'll be fine, had my oil temp in the sump plug for over 15 years. If you managed to bottom out and rip that out, that will be the least of your worries if you managed to reach that low! lol

I have oil pressure probe, which to me is far more important, in the lexus bolt mod, maybe you can use that for oil temp instead?

after some investigation i have decided to weld a mild steel bung into the side of the pan, creates a nice safe route for up through the passenger tunnel. Just need to find a reasonably prices temp gauge now.
