Hi guys

so not a lot has happened over last week due to James and Kane getting covid so off for the week so dipping date has moved, company was very understanding

so James was on it today and will be this week so imagine a fair bit of progress this week

so he wrestled the alarm out today, not happy as was every where

found some rust around , where the steering column goes through bulk head , which will need work and also round grommet where wiring goes to the rear hatch

So James removed subframes brakes brake lines fuel lines and suspension

some of the arms are useable as I had replaced several years ago

brake fuel lines are as usual and will be replaced

rack will get refurbished with new ends little play in it

rear subframe is the unknown so will get it blasted and see what it’s like , if so I’ll get another

"rear subframe is the unknown so will get it blasted and see what it’s like"

Your sub frame will be fine. Its a thick gauge metal.

I had my sub frame oven baked which gets to the inside as well as the outside. All the rust is then easily dissolved inside and outside in an acid dip. There will be rusting inside your frame that blasting simply wont touch.

The bake and galvanizing wasn't expensive when I did it in 2017. Details on the companies used and costing are on my underside refurb project thread if you decide to go that route.

Only a small update

james got the drivers rear quarter off ok, few hidden spotwelds

inner wing has bit of bashing and rust along the lip due to the arches being rolled etc

test fitted new quarter but inner wing is pushing it out a bit so little work needed

Bit More Progress

Outer Seal Fitting well

a Pillar Lines Up Well

But Usual Suspect At The Jacking Points

Decided To Cut Out And Fabricate It All With New

Quite A Bit Of Rust in those areas which is common

Hopes to fit the quarter tomorrow then next side

You're all in on this rebuild, so why cut corners or take chances. You'd just regret it later on.

I assume you'd like to replicate this work on the other rear quarter? Any luck finding a lh new panel?

Yep Other side will be same but can't get new panel so looks like only option is from a donor

All Test fitted and ready to weld now
