MOT FAIL

Exhaust emissions likely to be affected by an exhaust leak ( front lambda sensor falling out )

Failed both n/s/r and o/s/r seat belt anchorage prescribed area strength or continuity significently reduced

( n/s/r and o/s/r outer sill )

Rear registration plate Inscription missing

Suspension component ball joint excessively worn nearside and offside rears

If I remove the rear belts as they are never used will it be no longer part of the MOT ?

Is the sensor an easy fix ?

I think they will still fail you for the corrosion regardless of what you do. Sill corrosion can be put down as suspension mount prescribed area as well, if it's within 30cm. The best bet is to get it welded before it gets any worse.

The O2 sensor should be easy to fix, you may need to remove the exhaust manifold heat shield but both should be visible by just opening the bonnet.

You'd have to remove both the seats and the seatbelts. All seats must have seat belts for the MOT.

But the seatbelt mounting points for the rear seats are nowhere near the sills. More likely relating to the lower mount for the front seatbelts. You're much better off sorting the corrosion now before it gets worse as mc92 says.

Thanks for replies, Indeed the welding required is on the sills not inside the car, been quoted £100 a side, I will post a photo up if I can, this car is in project phase and the underneath really needs derusting and coating !!!

Exhaust was fixed for £30, minor weld and Lambda put back, rear ball joints being done next week along with a new rear number plate which also failed !

Only last week picked up car after having Tein Street Basis Z Coilovers fitted

A £100 a side is probably a bit cheap and most likely under quoted you once the skirts are removed I reckon there will probably much more then they expected and unless there doing a poor job and quick in and out repair where by they just over plating  over the rot to the closest decent bit of metal they can find and me personally would prefer to future proof it if the rest of the car is nice and good as it’s a worth while investment these days and prices rising

As a welder fabricator by trade I would want to cut or replace the full sill and fabricate any poor inner chassis rails and sills including sealing and painting and cavity injecting it all as I go along

Hope you get it sorted and start enjoying driving her again mate

  • 1 month later...

Bit of an update, where I took the car for the MOT that failed I took it back to a month later and they wouldn't even test it as the MOT tester ( different tester to the last one ) said I don't have an airbag on the steering wheel so no point doing another MOT, now, the previous tester at this garage did not mention this or put it on the fail sheet and it's passed the previous 3 MOT tests without a mention !!!

Anyone else had this issue ?

Taken from ask an MOT Tester

Would an aftermarket steering wheel be a fail on a 2003 Clio 172? I removed the original airbag equipped steering wheel but fitted resistors to prevent the airbag light coming on.

An airbag fitted as original equipment obviously missing..Major fail sorry

If however the car has been majorly modified:

Does it not depend on other factors? I thought it was ok if the car was evidently modified for competition/track use?

Substantially...full cage, stripped out, seats, maybe scrutineering stickers and you might get away with it, just a steering wheel for track days ain't gonna cut it
