Hi here !

I create my own topic about my project of restoration for my recent mk4 purchase because I cant find any real information about rust restoration.

So, let's start it ! I hope that this topic can help someone ^^

It's a jdm 1993 N/A manual Toyota Supra who need so much love ..

Purchased in March, very clean in pictures, but very rusty underside !

Since 1999 in the UK, 2013 in Belgium and 2015 in France. I'm decide to restore it, if I can because she need some lot of work.

You can see in the first pictures the day when I purchase it.

I change the front left caliper on the parking, because it was blocked (purchased one new before)

Hey thanks 🤗

So, first step, I have disassemble it step by step to see general condition and what parts are missing.

And unfortunately, she are very rusty.

You can see two pictures the next day for her first wash with me.

Here, the old rear tires.

IMG20210306183927.thumb.jpg.e556002dfe2ebc6adf293ba4cab74684.jpg

That's why I changed them on the road, to do 700kms in total security.

I fit pair of Work that came of my Aristo, It's the front setup 😅

Also, she was doing very lot of exhaust noise. An exhaust leak noise.

Yeah, mounted like that, I think it's normal 😏

And seals in this condition.

Also the flanges are fucked too, so I decided to weld it.

5 hours ago, Tyson said:

Great to see another car being restored.

From the bonnet and bumper fitment, plus the engine pic, looks like it might have had front end damage?

That's right. She had FR minor damage, and the bumper reinforcement are missing.

Yikes! That’s not good on the rust situation, hopefully you’ve caught it just in time, but will need some work to get that fixed properly.

Have a look through my build thread, I got a really good trunk carpet replacement from Australia, wasn’t silly money and it’s OEM+ in terms of look/quality etc. If you want new floor mats, they do those as well so buy them together to save on postage.

As for the front bumper and engine covers, speak to Lee P / SRD tuning who sell some rather tasty metal covers that look great and work a treat.

The absorber and any other OEM parts you need can be sourced via Paul at TCB Performance Parts who are a vendor on here.

Best of luck with the restoration, going to be a big job, but worth it. 🙂

Cheers,

Pete

Just in time is not the word that I use for that, she need a lot of work.

Thanks Peter for all your information !

Then I've doing test fitment of the Work Meisters that came from my Aristo.

It was in 19x9 and 19x10 with 12 and 18 offset.

After that, I doing a little photoshoot, before starting the real work on the car.

Let's start my build !

I started by cutting on the rust spot, to see the condition inside.

Look at it  🥴

I spotted a strange gap fitment with the rear bumper on the left side, on my seller's pictures. You will see why in a future post.

1419231557_Sanstitre-1.jpg.6b6123f912bf999d4f242ebbe845ae6e.jpg

I spotted another rust spot, inside the left back side. I cut it to see condition inside too, and another surprise :

I also found a big thickness of putty here.

Wtf they do on this poor car 😖

See you in the next episode, I think this will be long !

Finding this level of rust and damage a few years back would have attracted a lot of shock.

However, there have been a few cars in the last few years in what appears to be worse condition being brought back from the brink.

It's definitely worth the effort and keep up the good work.
