hello again everyone, shell purchased to build a new supra after selling my last pair of GE n/a

it was a TT auto from the factory, previous owner broke the car for parts after the engine failed

this was JUNE 2017, also can see my red supra in the back

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/290.jpg1 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

I went back in 2018 and found the car lying like this....

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/296.jpg7 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

no subframe, fuel tank, dash, heater box, steering column, front end, exhaust....it is completely bare

wing mirrors were in 100 bits in a carrier bag, speedometer was in a million bits, headlights split open and in bits, parts missing and so on

i made an offer and it was accepted, my black supra tt manual at the time in his driveway

the sate of this.... :(

i heard word of a local supra being broken, so i basically bought the whole car

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/300.jpg11 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

made a purchase, pretty much bought everything that was usable

then the fun starts.....finding out what i've gotten myself into

rusty hole (likely from brake fluid spilling and taking the paint off)

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/306.jpg17 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

rusty hole, poor undersealing conditions, not properly cleaning metal and painting over rust is 100x worse than just leaving it open to elements

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/307.jpg18 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

rusty hole - sill above front wing, also some lovely flattned sill lips that need repaired

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/308.jpg19 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

after spending days and days with a grinder i'd finally gotten rid of all the old underseal and crap off the rear of the car

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/313.jpg24 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

same on the front arches

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/314.jpg25 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

and the radiator pannel

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/315.jpg26 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

both wheel arches had small pieces cut out and remade to look as factory as possible

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/316.jpg27 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/317.jpg28 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

red oxide paint was used on all buffed areas to add protection

rear antenna hole was filled, along with the rear wiper and old spoiler holes on the boot as he had some aftermarket thing on

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/319.jpg30 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/320.jpg31 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

seam sealed joins front and rear

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/321.jpg32 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/322.jpg33 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

then gravitex stone gaurd

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/323.jpg34 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/324.jpg35 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

finish is so nice on this stuff

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/325.jpg36 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/326.jpg37 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/327.jpg38 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/328.jpg39 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

i have only sealed up the front wheel arches, boot floor above fuel tank and floor above rear subframe, still to do the vehicle floor pan and sills

keeping the frame for shifting all the subframes and stuff around, it's awesome

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/329.jpg40 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

so this is how i recieved the odometer, in a carrier bag mixed in with parts from an altezza he also stripped completely

put it all together and it works, tried it on another supra and i now have an actual shell mileage :D

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/330.jpg41 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

this is how i recieved the mirrors, in a carrier bag, perfect jdm folding mirrors stripped, plugs cut off, paitned cases sanded back, ruined

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/09/331.jpg42 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

it's a shame really as they were perfectly working before, probably just easier to buy second hand set

bought a new brake pipe joiner from toyota for the rear, also painted it to prevent rusting

image47 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

image48 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

i've recut almost every thread on this car's body where i've painted/stone chipped as i don't want any issues further down the line

image49 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

got the rear end fitted just for rolling the car around, it'll be coming back off for a final enamel coat going on the body for more underneath protection

image50 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

image51 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

on the front i'd gotten two bungs that go above the subframes as they were missing

image52 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

front end in place

image53 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

another visit to the scrap yard to collect the last of my bits i'd bought off the car, my little fiesta was PACKED!

got myself almost a full interior, loom and a few other parts

image54 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

had a rear bash bar from a fresh import i broke a few years back, painted it and put it on

image55 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

bought a spoiler

image56 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

bought a pair of headlights and cleaned them up properly

also put on a front crash bar

they are now in the bodyshop having a clear coat of UV protection lacquer painted onto them

went to toyota and got a full set of pins, springs and washers for the rear shoes to try have some sort of handbrake assembly that'll work to hold the car still

image59 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

as per usual with toyota, they nailed me for these, some parts are stupidly expensive

image60 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

bought copper nickel brake pipe, it'll hopefully not turn green the same as normal copper pipe, it's getting painted silver anyway, so i made a start at lines for the rear

image61 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

bought a front tow mounting point

need to find another one for sale

image62 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

spun the shell around so i can get the doors open on the ramp now to make life easier

image63 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

spent HOURS pealing off all this cheap ebay spec sound deadening that was clarted all over the place inside the car, probably more of a fire hazard than anything...

image64 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

filled a carrier bag, it was all up the inside of the bulkhead etc

image65 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

tried on the back end, used the prefacelift lights i kept from my first red supra

image66 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

gloss black on the rad pannel

and matt black quick dry enamel on the floor, rear frame and wheels are coming back off to paint all the stone chipped parts with this as a final sealant coat on top

image67 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

image68 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

image69 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

needs some welding on the lower pockets, going to make sure i only cut up to the line so it'll all look factory finished when it's repaired

notice to all supra owners, check beneath your spats if they've been on since day one!

image70 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

after a good buff, not bad really it'll easily cut out and repair

i thought it was going to be alot worse

image71 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

inner pannel was pitted too so i got the grinder out, i don't want any rust left on this shell when i'm done!

image72 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

this will be going in soon, 6 speed tunnel

image73 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

PARTS LIST WANTED:

clutch pedal

aero skirts

pair of mirrors power folding ideally

damn. You sir are a restorer of note. Congrats on saving another JZ. Keep us posted and if you need more parts, scroll on to face book. Seen a guy selling those tow hooks the other day and was wondering what they were but I had a slight idea as mine aren't on the car and I think me as well have one only.

any chance you remember which page it was you seen them on?

----------------------------------------

thanks for all the comments guys :D

I will try keep this build thread as detailed as possible due to the MASSIVE list of jobs I still have to do to the chassis

it's booked in for an engine bay spray job too in a few weeks time at a bodyshop before I put the brake servo and loom etc in the car

hopefully my new engine should arrive this week, a fresh 2jz gte vvti TT motor from a very low mileage aristo from japan, cost me 3k but it's worth it in my opinion

i'll be looking into single turbo choices, management, injectors and gearbox options for next year

pics will follow, I have the engine now :D

all the welding repair work and sill straightening is now finished, I'm just at the horrible grinding stage now

the last thing I need to do is change the trans tunnel to 6spd and then it can actually come off the ramp and I can begin to assemble the interior, going to need to find pics of the looms etc to make sure I do it all correct as my last supra I fully stripped was 2016 so a while ago

same as my last supra, this is an aristo automatic engine which needs a few parts swapped over to fit onto a supra

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/10/118.jpg77 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

left or right? haha

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/10/119.jpg78 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

spent an evening stripping the loom, sump and mounts off the GE mkiv engine as they will all be needed for the aristo engine

the loom will be a custom hybrid made loom again using the supra body plugs and fuse box connectors, spliced into the aristo engine ecu harness

headlights in bits

https://jza80.mkivsupra.net/imports/2018/10/122.jpg81 by Jonny McIntosh, on Flickr

subframe, diff, rear hubs, shafts all for sale

rear arms all missing, they were cut up aparently and binned, i can only assume they would have been saveable but meh

i spent an evening grinding the passenger floor in prep for the pannel beater arriving

this was about 2-3 hrs worth of grinding, my arms and shoulders are in agony from holding a grinder above my head for so long

all the old underseal turns to hot string when grinding...i HATE these kind of jobs

Thanks, got the manual tunnel top welded in yesterday, driver side is now covered in red oxide primer undercoat so waiting a few days for that to fully harden before applying stone chip and matt black enamel over the top

then the chassis welding and prep work is all finished and it can come off the ramp for now and head to the bodyshop for next year

I finished off the wheel housings on my car in ABRO Rubberized UNDERCOATING SPRAY after reading a lot of very favourable reviews of the product on US car restoration threads. As well as providing a rubberised coating that is corrosion resistant it is also ding resistant from road grit and chips often found in the wheel well area and often accumulated within the Supra tank guard. It also gives sound insulation to. So I'd recommend it as something worth considering adding to your wheel areas before rebuilding.
